I've done some thinking about taking off my chrome grand sports for a set of CCW split spokes. I'm running 11" all around now with 285/40 in front and 315/17 in rear. I can go the CCW 11" all around with 295/30 in front and 305/30 in the rear. The diameters are almost exaclty the way they came from the factory. I will still have 12.1" of section width with the rears. I like the razor thin tires and would slam the car. Does anybody have pictures of a c4 with 19".
I saw 20's. A liitle too extreme. 19's would look great. I wish I would have atleast gone to 18's. Maybe next year when I finish motor project.
I agree, 20" would be to big. I had 18" hickock five shots 0n my collectors edition and the wheels looked to small for the car. 19" with almost the same diameter as factory would be good I think. I cant wait to see DIE L's when he puts his on. Anybody who knows of any pics please let me know.
One problem with 3 pc wheels is some manufactures will use a common center and just replace outer sections. So you have a center section that initiall was used on a 16 but now they are using 18 side sections making the center look small in the wheel. I like when they use a center made for the size wheel they are building. I have 17 GS' right now and after seeing my truck with 20's and my neighbors with 22's and another neighbor with Hre 19's on his viper now my wheels seem little bitty to me. I just put a bunch of money into motor and blower so will redo wheels next year.
Agree that the larger wheels look very cool.
In another thread someone stated that larger wheels have a smaller tire contact patch (for the same width) than stock 17" wheels.
Can anyone confirm this, and give a good explanation of why this is so?
Thanks.
heres a guess... ok, for a say, 16" tire you get this.

\___/
with the \___/ being the rubber and the ___ being the contact spot.
but, when you make the tire bigger around.. ie 19" you would get
smaller sidewalls, and then the \___/ has to curve from the bottom to the vertical, much faster (because there is less rubber sidewall to do it)
so you use some of the contact part to curve upwards.... OMG that doent work!
hmm.
that was my only idea. and it cant work because they wouldnt make a tire like that.
maybe, because it would have smaller sidewalls, so be stiffer, and then the contact patch would be smaller in the other direction. (think 2d looking down on the contact patch. before i was talking about side to side of the car, now its front to back)
