I realize the 10.8:1 compression is a bit high for turbo/SC applications, but what about nitrous? How big of a shot can my stock 96 Grand Sport handle? And while we are at it, what other mods are worth while? Anybody run 3.73's or lower? Any help would be much appreciated.
Nitrous is the opposite of that of turbo/superchager, Where as, It loves High compression....
I wouldn't run much more then 100hp if you want to keep it safe... Cast Pistons dont tend to like to many 150+hp shots....
On my 91, I was spraying 150, but thats because, If the motor did end up blowing... I would have been ready with a New stroker completely forged
Im putting the Nitrous on the LT4 in the next couple of weeks.. I will keep it at no more then 100hp...... Just make sure your no detonating and you should be fine... (Invest in a Digital 6+ MSD..... It pulls timing as you activate the system
BTW
As for gears... i was looking into that as well... And I think I decided to go with 3.92s.... I dont think 3.73s will be a big enough difference, and with a 4.10 and nitrous I mihgt have to shift into 5th in the quater... So if you ask me, 3.92s are the perfect compromise!
Cool......so lets say i go with a NX wet 100 shot and some 3.92 gears. What kind of gains can i expect? The car ran 13.87 @ 102 in 4000ft. air completely stock. Does 12.50's @ 114 mph sound about right? Thanks.
I have a friend that runs heads/cam and a 150 shot of nitrous on a stock bottom end LT4. He's putting out around 510RWHP on the juice...I don't expect his engine to last long. When he was pretty much stock the worst that happened was he blew a head gasket. I think 150 is pretty safe, as long as you're not on it all the time...but I certainly would not go over a 150 shot!
I agree with the 100 shot. You can go bigger but, your chances of problems are a lot higher. I've seen a lot of guys run 100 shots with no problems. Anything over 100 is when you start hearing horror stories.
I have a 125 shot on my LT4. All else is stock except 3.92's and Corsa cat back. Best ET 12.5 Best MPH 117. This was done on street tires 275x40x17. At present I am adding long tubes, LT4 hot cam, 315 drag radials, and LT1/4 Edit tuning. Hope to make the high elevens. With the 125 shot it dynoed 418 RWHP and 540 RWTQ. With the 3.92's you will hit the traps at around 6200 in 4th.

At that trap speed (117) You could hit elevens with good hook.... Without the cam, long tubes and Tuning. What was your 60ft mark ????? Your setup is almost exactly what i want to do..... Exhaust, 3.92s, Nitrous..... Very nice
60' time not good: 2.1 is best. That's on street tires. I don't launch that hard, between 1800 and 2000 rpm. The N2O comes in at 3200 rpm. I will be launching close to 3000 with the new mods. and my short time should improve considerablity. The street tires would not let launch any higher because of spin and when nitrous kicked in it would get sideways. I am really interested at the new performance that I expect. Should know by the end of October.
