Okay, my AC in my 86 has the digital climate control, it will be blowing cold air then like it's possessed start blowing heat, it was only doing it with the temp set above 65 now it will do it at 60, so I turn the AC off back on and it blows cold for a spell then freaks out again, :banghead:
One shop told me they checked everything and it had to be the control unit the part under the radio, this part is 200-300 bucks and shop "A" could not tell me this would fix my problem 100% but "thought" it would, :skep:
I told all this to shop "B" today who said he doubted it was the control unit but in fact it was an air diverter or it's control motor and that this diverter can get cracked, he said he can 100% tell me what the problem is for one third what shop "A" told me what it "could" be for,
If it's this deverter/motor thing it's like a 250-300 dollar job he tells me the parts are not all that costly but it's a 4 plus hour job to do it,
I'm a c3 person this high tech c4 stuff I need to learn, I can't believe I'm the only one who has these problems so can someone fill me in with some opinions on this.
Many thanks,
C.
On my '86 there is a valve on the pass side in the engine compartment close to where the heater lines go through the firewall to the heater core. I don't know if this valve is opening and allowing heat to pass through the heater core, but it might be worth checking out...
Temp door is in the Evaporator housing and if you remove the blower control module, you can watch it work while someone operates the controls. It's operated by an electric motor on the passenger side of the heater box. The motor controls the door with an aluminum rod connected with a piece of plastic at the motor. Sometimes the plastic breaks and the door starts "flapping in the breeze" as the blower sends an air stream across it. Hence, hot/cold, hot/cold, out of the vents. To get at it and observe the linkage, remove the hush panel on the passenger side and then contort yourself into whatever position you feel most comfortable at to look up and forward towards the firewall from the floor.
