trans temp reading idea question,
Has anyone ever tried mounting an extra oil temp sensor that normally goes in the block in there trans oil pan and then using a switch to change from one sensor to the other? opinions please...

When I changed my fluid/filter on my 84 I saw a temp sensor all ready there from the factory but no wiring harness connects to it, the socket is just sitting there open. The sensor is just below the bottom of the valve body just above the pan. Surely others have seen this but maybe they never saw it, if you know what I mean. GM was going to do this but ran out of room on the digital dash arrangement is my guess. I haven't looked at my 89 but I'm sure it has the sensor too. I have often thought about hooking it up but I don't know what type of gauge to use.

Next time I change my trans oil I will weld a 1/4 pipe coupler to the side of the pan the sensor fitting will also serve as easy drain so that future changes will be less messy.
