For months I searched in vain for a reason my display would for no reason freeze up at different speeds or not show me anything at all with the exception of the backlight. Nothing seemed to be causing this and it seemed to be very random occurrence. Ready to give in and go through the timely task of replacing the display I started to have issues with the started selinoid and decided to tackle this issue first.
I replaced the whole starter after purchasing it from GMparts online and with that issue resolved I went for the usual test drive.
To my amazement after two weeks the display issue has mysteriously disappeared.
My question is could the started have drained enough juice from the electrical system to cause the display issue?
Mine used to give me wild gibberish and go completely blank sometimes. Try pushing back on the gauge cluster on the lower left side.....about where the rpm range starts. it pushing back makes the cluster come on better, then its not making good contact with the plug behind it. the cluster slides back into this dumb plug thats not set very well. I tried installing a different cluster in mine after taking it apart twice and it works perfect now.
