In C3's we used to drill (one drill bit size bigger than the hole) the out port on the steering pump to increase the flow. This made the Steering alot quicker and reponse in an autocross setting. My 90's steering is getting noticably slower. I have replaced all the rubber with nylon and all the parts are new. I am running 11x17' GS wheels in the front.
Would drilling this out Help? Hurt? Can it be drilled out. I have not taken this apart yet. Winter project you know. Also can braided hoses be bought for this application at a reasonable price. :steering:
Re: How can you improve steering response (fnseeker)
If your steering response is slow i would suspect there is a problem. The rack and pinion should be very responsive without modification. I would check the rack, the rack bushings, plus all the front end components. Im not sure if theres a rag-joint on the column, i could look later. That could be worn. I never drove a C3 Modded or not that even came close to the response of a C4. :steering:
Re: How can you improve steering response (fnseeker)
This may not be what you're talking about, but you can run less toe-in, or even run toe-out, to increase steering response.I believe some of the Auto-X guys run toe-out, and then adjust it to 0 or toe-in for the street, when the meet is over.
