A while back we had a good discussion on installing the Meziere pump to replace the OEM pump on a LT-1. The discussion was on the need to remove the driven gear assembly while installing the electric water pump. Below is a picture of the driven gear assembly. One shows it with the coupler holding the assembly together and the other shows it separated. Notice the lack of support when it is separated. This is why it is a good idea to remove the entire assembly. Just think what it would be like at 5 or 6k rpms!
Re: Why you should remove water pump drive-LT-1 (Strick)
Amen brother
Some people say that you don't need to remove this. Well I guess that's ok if you like oil leaks. It might not leak at first, but it WILL leak eventually. If you're going to do it, do it right and eliminate one more oil leak. BTW, once you eliminate that you can go with any timing chain you would like.

Nathan,
can I use a different timing chain with the 93 style opti spark? I have a hot cam to install but I hate to switch the opti right now. Its fairly new. Also I have the electric pump to install.
