Default Change Oil light

hey guys, yesterday the change oil light came on in my 95, and i know that gm made some cars that actually had a part to test oil quality, but i didn't think that they had it for 95 vettes. i did a dip stick and, it was just slightly below the normal range (barley discernable). do i have to change out all the oil, or can i just add some more mobile 5w-30?

My guess is that they didn't reset the oil life monitor when they did the oil change in the first place. Do the procedure from the owners manual and that'll be that.

I wouldn't add any oil unless it is really low in the hash area. Any place in that area is considered acceptable. If it is really close to the top then you are better off leaving it as is. Too much oil is just as bad as too little.

Oh yeah...welcome to the Forum and don't forget to wave. :seeya

For my 96, this is the procedure:

1. Turn the key to RUN, but don't start the engine.

2. Press ENG/MET on the trip monitor. Then, within five seconds, press it again.

3. Within five seconds, press and hold GAUGES on the trip monitor. The
CHANGE OIL light should flash.

4. Hold the GAUGES button until the CHANGE OIL light stops flashing and goes out. This should take about 10 seconds.

That should hopefully do the trick for you. Good luck.

Okay, here goes:

Turn the key to the run position, but don't start the engine.
Press the Eng MET button on the trip monitor. Within five seconds, press the ENG MET button again.
Within five seconds of step 2, press and hold the GAUGES button on the trip monitor. The CHANGE OIL light will flash.
Hold the GUAGES button until the CHANGE OIL light stops flashing and goes out.

Engine Oil Life Monitor:

The EOLM uses engine oil temperature and engine RPMs to determine when the oil is nearly worn out. But, it is only a reminder and then the normal interval listed in the manual should be followed.

You can get an owners manual fairly cheap on Ebay or order it directly from Helms Inc. :seeya
