i HAD A PROBLEM STARTING MY CAR BOOSTED IT IT STARTED ,THEN THE NEXT DAY I HAD SYS FLASHING ON MY SPEEDOMETER AREA THEN NEXT LOW VOLTAGE IN MILEAGE AREA .DECIDED TO CHECK THE CODES HAVE A CODE 16 STORED .
The SYS is a signal of an error detected in the electrical system. One of the most common causes is a battery starting to go. If the CCM detects battery voltage below a set number(something like 11 volts) for a few seconds, it will falsh SYS. When you pulled the code 16, that was from the ECM. It's one of the codes for an optispark problem. Has the car been running well? Oh, yea, one other thing.. TURN OFF THE CAP LOCKS. :steering:

Maybe not. There is a really cool procedure you can use to pull the CCM codes which are independent of the ECM codes. Code 16 there might mean low battery. Let me consult my shop manual, of course that means I have to FIND my shop manual :smash:
The CCM code 16 would be ignition 3 fuse circuit open. As others have said ECM code 16 is an opti problem.
BTW if the computer picks up a code 16 on the opti it should set a service engine soon light. If it's not doing that then it may well be the fuse. I'll see if I can find out where that might be.
Could have blown something when you jump started it.
Re: SYS FLASHING ON SPEEDOMETER SCREEN (Nathan Plemons)
Nathan since you have a book and I dont, is code 13 a o2 code for driver or pass side? I also keep getting the sys flas but mine has no charging system problems?

If you have installed an after market stero, that can cause the "sys" to flash also. If that's not the case, then your battery/ charging system has a problem. Just my $.02 worth.

sTUMPED
THANKS MIKE
What year is your car?
I disagree with what others are telling you. The SYS message has nothing to do with the electrical system, although a low battery can cause the SYS message to appear. All "SYS" means is the CCM is storing a code. You mentioned code 16, what sub-system is that? PCM? CCM? ABS/TCS? etc. When you check the codes the CCM will tell you the system.
I don't think you have anything to worry about. Once during an alignment job I ran my battery down. When I started the car the CCM logged about 6 random codes due to the low battery. Nothing was wrong with the car, the CCM just had a brain fart due to low power. Clear the codes and everything will be fine.
How is a low battery not a problem with the electrical system?
CCM code 16 refers to a blown fuse. I've never heard of a hydraulic fuse, so chances are this is electrical.
The ECM code 16 means a problem with the opti and it would also set a service engine light. ABS / ASR doesn't even have a code 16.
Almost all of the CCM codes deal with either a circuit that is open or operating out of parameters. It's almost all electrical.
BTW did you know the SYS light will flash if you pull the courtesy lamps fuse? Sure it could be nothinig, and it could reset itself. Since he did have a code 16 though, what's it gonna hurt to check it out?
Re: SYS FLASHING ON SPEEDOMETER SCREEN (Nathan Plemons)
I figured out my sys flash today! :hurray: For a while I have had to press very hard on the buttons on my dic to toggle between features. I took the dash apart and the 5 pin connector on the back of the dic was loose. Now buttons only have to be gently pressed and sys is gone!
