Error 51 'Bad EPROM' 87 L98 - Help
Well, was intermittently just shutting down (87 L98) not often and then would restart after about 3-5 minutes and run just fine... well check codes and only code was 51 so ordered and installed new ERPOM yesterday, drove all day, no issues, then this morning...
Temp 198 running fine, and 'Check Engine Lite' come on, car still running, stays on for about 15 sec then goes away... get home and check codes and ONLY code AGAIN is '51'. Made sure connections were tight and reseated EPROM.
? - Thinking maybe just bad ECM ? Any thoughts there guys....

Thanks David,,, yea just took the least expensive part first, EPROM - now guess its replace the ECM, not too bad at NAPA $85 after core replacement... so on we go... thanks again.

I had a similar problem with my 90. Got a code 51, thought it was perfect time for an Ed Write chip, about a year later the ECM went bad. Guess they like to die together.

Well went to napa and got a NEW ECM and installed with NEW stock EPROM. Install went well and took pics in case anyone wants the process.. Ran test and NO 'Code 51' or ANY codes... so we'll see. thanks for the help, guys.
