Thanks STL94LT1,
I will run this part number by my local GM parts dealers. I do have another question for the forum. What does it mean to install a spring a 101# @ 1.78"? How do you set the install height and how do you measure the spring pressure?
jcook00, not to be rude but you're missing the point of STL94LT1s post. Chris at Superior Chevrolet sells parts for wholesale plus 10%. Simply running the p/n by a local dealer will most likely result in another quote of $100+

Unless you have the heads worked, the LT4 spring will install at 1.78" by simply dropping it in place and using the stock locator, retainer, and locks. If desired, you can mic the install height of each spring and then shim as necessary to get them all to the same install height. Shims come in many thicknesses...i.e. .010", .030", etc. This makes the spring pressures consistent for all the valves. In the case of the LT4, 101# closed is what's desired and if I recall +/- 5# or so is acceptable.

Depending on cam lift and desired seat pressures, you can use offset locks, shims, etc to "customize" the spring closed and open pressures to your taste.

Bottom line...call Chris at Superior for a good price and excellent service and install the springs with the stock components.

Sorry! also..

Thanks Jim! I didn't realize your the one who had did all the work until I finished reading.

I'll really like to know if any one knows if the steps are pretty much the same on a L98.
Quite welcome :) My L98 was a '90. Same basic steps. The most obvious difference is the intake. On my '90, getting the TPI runners off without messing up the valve covers takes some care and the use of various size extensions and swivel joints (universals). Also, the bolts that secure the runners and the plenum are torx. As I recall, there is one torx on each side that you access from the opposite side of the car. Many people overlook these two bolts and can't figure out why the runners are "stuck". Removing the EGR valve helps as well.

The front of the engine is different in that there's no Optispark to mess with. There are several small supporting brackets, so be sure to carefully identify where they come from and in what order they install. After a couple days, it's easy to forget some of the minor details.

All the major stuff is the same...raising the engine to get the cam out, installing the oil pan, etc.

For what it is worth, I wrote a tech tip on "Meziere coolant pump install" and it covers a lot of what you are about to do. I hope it goes smoothly for you as I want to do the same next year along with LT-4 heads. Take it easy and when you get irritated, walk away and have a brew or something.

Thanks Jim, I got it on the spring install height and pressure. I do plan to have the heads worked later if my appetite for speed isn't quenched by this mod. I found a chevy dealer that sold p/n 12495494 valve springs for $37 + tax. I just kept calling dealers because the forum insisted I could get a better price than the $180 quoted by the dealership that sold me the cam. Sure enough LandMark Chevrolet in Houston was about the 10th dealer I called and bingo. Needless to say I spent many good man hours Saturday chasing down parts and tools. I have a clean garage and lots of new parts laid out, but I have yet to turn a screw. On the forums suggestion I bought new plug wires p/n TAY-74225 Taylor 8mm Spiro-Pro Wires and new spark plugs p/n NGK-TR55. Best of all, thanks to the forum I have assembled a pretty darn good plan that just needs executing.
