Tonite, I was going to do the final switch over. you know, wires harness, that stuff... however, the opti pigtail harness (the connector on the right bank of the intake) on my 92 is 5 wired square, whereas the LTCC is a 4 wire, flat.
To make matters worse, I tore up 2 old plug wires removing them... #s 6&8, of course... so unless I get an answer, I am buying some crap wires to get me through the next few days...
What the hell do I do now?
I have emailed LTCC, and await a response, but have heard it can be slow...
any ideas????
HELP!!!!!
pissed does not describe how mad I am right now... :mad :mad :mad
Re: [URGENT PROBLEM] LTCC Installation Problem (bogus)
Bogus,
I'm pretty sure you don't need the 5th wire. When I installed the updated opti I ran into the same problem. I had to remove the pins from the new pigtail and put them back into the old connector. It still went ABCD, but it was strange. Let me go take a look.
Re: [URGENT PROBLEM] LTCC Installation Problem (bogus)
The early Opti-Spark has an extra wire that is a shield. The later one doesn't use a shield. In addition, the the connector under the right injector cover is different between the early and late Opti-Spark. But, the pin numbers are the same. So, you can eject pin 1 (or A) from the early connector and put it in pin 1 (or A) of the late connector, etc. All you need to do is change the connector on the harness or the LTCC, making sure you keep the same pins in the same place -- it's best to do them one at a time.
This is the same procedure you have to follow when putting a late Opti-Spark on a vehicle that originally came with an early Opti-Spark.
Sounds like the LTCC is setup for the late Opti-Spark only. But, that's not a big deal.
Re: [URGENT PROBLEM] LTCC Installation Problem (Tom Piper)
ok, this brings up question #2...
is the same 1 to 1 relationship on the LTCC connector?
I guess what I need to do is figure which is which... you see, I can't GET that connector until MONDAY!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to be able to tap directly into the harness... ie, cut off the pigtail and solder directly to the harness connection... what does wire a do, b and so on?
Re: [URGENT PROBLEM] LTCC Installation Problem (Tom Piper)
:iagree: I remember that even though the shape was different pin A was still pin A. You just take it out of the old connector and put it in the new one.
Here is a drawing of the pinout if after you put the new opti wires into the old connector. I don't know if the LTCC uses the same wire colors or not. The important thing is that Pin A on the new connector = pin A on the old connector which = pin A on the car side of the connector.
Hope this helps
Important note. This is drawn as if you were holding the connector and took it apart, then turned the open ends towards you. You are actually looking at the pins, not the back.
Re: [URGENT PROBLEM] LTCC Installation Problem (bogus)
I guess I need to plan for this issue as well. Bogus, can we just order the newer style connector from GM or does it have to come from salvage sources?
I got my coils and brackets but am awaiting the arrival of the LTCC module.
Re: [URGENT PROBLEM] LTCC Installation Problem (Goody)
Kevin, I think the 93 uses the four pin connector. Check it out beneath the left fuelrail cover, pretty much right in the middle. The four pin connector is grey, while the 92 six pin connector is black. Had to work this out with my dynaspark. :steering:
Re: [URGENT PROBLEM] LTCC Installation Problem (Ramrod92)
that's it...
You all have nailed it on the head... the 92 has a one year wonder connector!
What I am not sure about... the opti side of the connector... sure, the car harness side is easy to get, but what about that opti side connector?
this is what I am going to do...
knowing the connectors are A-A, B-B, C-C & D-D, and considering the connector from the LTCC is a parallel connection, it's A is he same as the A from the car harness, follow?
