Is This an Air Pump?
Now, I'm glad I've isolated the source of the problem ... but I am not 100% confident that the unit making the sound is an air pump. But, by process of elimination, I figure it's gotta be that. Here are two pictures, each with a white arrow pointing to the unit I'm talking about:
My question to you is:
1. Is this the air pump? (if not, what is it?)
2. Is it as easy to replace as it looks?
3. Any words of advice about replacing it?
If it is in fact an air pump, though I'd like to put one of those "eliminiator" brackets in, I will need to replace it with a real air pump due to SCCA A-stock regulations that govern the type of autocrossing I do.
Thanks in advance for any advice/comments/suggestions.

Remove the pump, take it apart, cut the vanes out of it, and lube the bearings, then reinstall.
Voila, that power robbing POS instantly eliminates itself, and still looks like an AirPump. Total Cost? 1.5 hours

Maybe I'll pick up a salvage unit and gut it.
Does anybody who's gutted an A.I.R. pump have any "words of caution" for somebody who will be doing so?
