Does anyone reading this have any idea of how hard it is to replace a power brake booster in an 86 vette. I heard it was easy then I saw a picture of how the booster actually looks, and it looks as though the dash may have to come out. Also, could someone describe to me exactly how to do it and what steps are involved. Thanks
Actually its pretty simple. The master cylinder just needs to be unbolted and moved aside. The hard part is the two mounting bolts that go through the firewall and under the dash. They are way up there and I had to go upside down, top off feet in the air to change them out. Now I am 6'2" and 250 so if you are a little guy it might be easier.
it really helps if you have two people. one to hold the booster in place and one under the dash spinning the nuts. I had no problems lining it up. went right where it was supposed to. And the box it came in said it was for a Malibu....go figure.
:iagree: It's not that complicated, but a pain in the beehaunkus. If you got a convertible, put the top down. Your, gonna be standing on your head. The hardest thing I dealt with was, I knocked my brake light switch out of adjustment. It took me a while to figure out what I moved and why my brake lights were stuck on. You just have to remove the panel under the steering wheel and struggle with the right sockets for a while. If you know what you are going for it is about a 30 minute job in the extreme.
if ur pedal went hard, and its tough to get it to slow down, it could be the booster. i nailed it down to that by a whisppy loud vacuum leak that no vacuum lines could account for. I also had my friend just take a look at it who is a mechanic, and he says its the booster.
