Exhaust Resonance - Help Please?

Exhaust Resonance - Help Please?
Okay....after reading everything here on exhaust, I put on a new cat (Factory replacement from Mid-America), Dynomax Y-Pipe with cross over tube (Mid-America) and Quiet-Flow mufflers (Also from Mid-America). THere is still a resonance around the 1700 RPM range. ANNOYING AND LOUD.
The only thing I havn't changed is the front pipe off the motor with the pre-cats.
It's an 88 L98 with 130,000 kms on it. Not great gas milage, but livable. I want the car quiet. Funny thing is that when the car is cold, it's relatively quiet....once it starts to warm up, the resonance gets noticably louder.
Is that strange or what??
Suggestions?
The tailpipes don't quite come to the edge of the bumper......I was told that extending the tips past the rear bumper would help.......TRUE??

I would look at what you have done and make sure that the exhaust is not touching the body ANYWHERE. It could be your prob.

You might want to make sure the bolts are all tightened. Extending the tips does help some. As does installing some of that sound-absorbing material in the rear compartment.

I have an 88 convertible, I do have some resonance in the car... but not as bad as you I even had the pre-cats removed.
I actualy had a part of the exaust tuching the X brace under my car and it wouldn't resonate it would actualy vibrate through the floor of the car.

best solution, turn up the radio or floor it!(I recommend flooring it)

How long have you given the new system a chance to break in? I know mine was unbearable for the first week. As time went on, it got a lot better and now its not bad. The crossover pipe should help a little. It helped for me. but why did you get a Y-pipe?
Other things you can do...
a) Make sure that the exhaust system or muffler hooks arent touching other parts of the car besides the clamps or the rubber.
b) Extend the tips from the bumper a little.
c) Extend the muffler hooks and lower the mufflers a little.
d) Change the rubber on the muffler hooks.
e) Adding glass packs or other such devices may help.
f) Sound proofing.
g) If none of that stuff works, get some loud as hell exhaust or get a new vette if you must have a quiet car.

Replacing the hooks and hangers as well as the mounts........never thought of that......... Can I use universal mounts, or specific ones such as the ones from Mid-America Direct?
