I have developed a noise in the front, it sounds like its coming from the master cylinder area, when I press the brakes. It is a clunk sound like two pieces of metal have play in them and it makes the noise when I press the brake. Its more easy to here when going slow in a parking lot.
I jacked the car up and I have a little movement -side to side- when I pull on the wheel. Driver side has more than passinger. I was thinking wheel bearing, when I spin the wheels on the jack and hit the brake hard their is also some movement of the a arm around bushings, So Im stumped, Dad things it might be universal joint and the noise is traveling thru the drive line.
It sounds like it is at the firewall just the other side of the brake petal. (But I don't think their is anything in that area that could make noise.)
Their is play in something somewhere and when brake is pressed it takes up the slack, CLUNK, I THINK !
Anyone have any ideas ? things to check, ect, ?? :banghead:
This car is driving me crazy, every time I fix somethin, Two more things need fixing....... :mad
Thanks....
Re: Need help with Front Clunking noise. ?? (jimmyd)
If auto trans try this. get on the street or parking lot with a little room. get the car going and then put it in neutral and listen for the noise. do what you normally do but in neutral. If the noise goes away its probably the the tranny. If not...look elsewhere.
I only say this because I had the same kind of problem and ended up being the tranny. Good Luck

It sounds like your calipers are moving in the mounts. There are pins that hold them they get beat up. there are supposed to be clips too. check that out.
