Removing C4 auto shift ****
Is there any trick to removing the shift **** for replacement? any special tools needed to get the center button off? Thanks

The only special tool required is a set of snap ring pliers. Here's how you do it. Put the parking brake on and shift to neutral. Use a small, thin bladed screw driver and pry (gently) the shift button out. The shifter is held by a small snap ring inside along the shaft. Use the pliers to open the snap ring. A little advise here, once you have the points of the pliers in the holes of the snap ring, place your hand or a shop towel or a plastic bag over the shifter. The snap ring WILL come loose and end up God knows where! After the ring is removed, just pull up (sharply) on the shifter and the **** should come loose.

:iagree: spring things have a way of getting bounced.
I was changing out my sunvisors and the round pressure nut shot off of that spring and I searched my garage hi and low. Never did find that thing.
