I own an automotive shop and recently puchased an 88 corvette for me personally. After considering several factors I decided to overhaul the engine. While I was in there I installed a mild "Comp. Cam", Z-28 valve springs at the sugestion of my machinist. Anyway, before I overhauled the engine, I thought the valve train was noisey. After overhauling the engine, it still sounds noisey to me. Sounds like wore out flat tappet lifters. Is it common for a little valve train noise with roller set-ups?
It can depend on valve lash setting too; I set my valve train cold to 0-lash plus 5/8 turn with ProMagnum RRs. I believe I have a little valve train noise but it's hard to distinguish from the ram-air intake and injectors.
Use a piece of rubber tubing as a stethoscope to determine if the noise if from injectors or the valve train.
I adjusted the rockers 1 full turn past zero lash - cold...
These are the stock stamped rockers, right? Did you adjust them in the order the service manual calls for? I like to adjust mine cold to get them close and then readjust them with the engine running. I always end up with 1 or 2 clacking pretty badly when I do them cold.
