What are your guy's reccomendations? I am planning on at least going with forged pistons (dished from lower compression) and better rings. Unfortunetly, I am not very experienced with engine build-ups, so that is why I am asking here.
I would have a shop, most likely, do the install (I have a few friends that offered to help (they are mechanics and have done a few bottom end rebuilds, but I lack the tools (ie engine hoist and cradle)). Anybody know what a good price would be with installation for just putting in forged pistons and rings that can actually withstand boost (in a LT1)? Is it better just to wait and do a 383? How much would that be?
Sorry for the long post and all the questions, but I can't seem to find prices anywhere. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks in advance. You guys on the vetteforum know everything.... :yesnod:
you sound Like a man who is a prime candidate for a crate motor. Scoggin dickey, summit, all kinds of parts houses sell shortblocks for Lt1's. I would take your buddies up on the offer to help install the motor. Just rent a cherry picker from your local rent-all or possibly from an auto store. You'll have the I did it my self satisfaction, along with the knowlege that a professional assembled your Rotating assembly. Just bolt on the top end and go! :steering:
Does anyone have any suggestions for purchasing a short block (from whom and parts to look for)? Also, can I keep my stock top end and bolt it onto a 383 short block? What will I have to change for that to work?
