Auto Trans Leak
I have been chasing a small leak on the auto transmission in by 89 coupe for the past 2 years. When I bought the car it had several fluid leaks, most were corrected with the relacement of the gaskets on the intake manifold. The pan gasket on the transmission was a source of leakage, however it has also been replaced. I have had it in the shop several times each time my mechanic could not find the source of the ATF leak (dye was added to fluid no joy). This past weekend I was changing my oil and filter, while I was leak checking the oil filter, I noticed that ATF was collecting around the 2 large bolts that secure the aft transmission to the support tube. Has anyone seen this before and what is the fix?

I am having the same problem, if we are talking about the same place... My mechanic says mine is leaking at the yoke, same mechanic that rebuilt the tranny last month and never caught it......he said he would have to take the yoke out and run a dye through the it and see where it is leaking at,,, and then spot weld around it for a cheap fix,,,,,, my question was,,, isnt this thing balanced and wont the weld throw off the balance? I am thinking , I am going out to spend the money and buy a new yolk,,,, unless someone in the forum has a extra one lying around for a 700R4 ... and I will put it in myself..... Anyone have any advice

Slip yoke seal and bushing on the extended case can leak. It pretty much blew fluid all over the area but much landed on the cat causing smoke to waft out of the hood area when stoped. Very intermitted.

It could be a blown seal, very common as the tranny gets older/hi miles
Mine was, and didnt leak much fluid at all, until i replaced the fluid and then it really started coming out.
