I need to pull my auto. transmission to replace severely leaking front seal. I'm a little suspicious of the condition of the tranny. Shifts perfect, but I have dark red fluid, and a little noise when I shift into 1st or 2nd. I can get a used tranny, from the same year, with under 30,000 miles for $300, or sink in the $900 minimum to have mine rebuilt. Money is an issue right now. I know there's risk going used even if the seller believes it's in perfect shape.
If money is an issue and your fluid doesn't smell burnt, just change the seal
and do a fliud/filter. Just dont beat the s#$t out of it. I would get as much out
of it as possible.... Why dump all that money into a rebuilt or a
used piece you're not sure of? Right now you spend 50 and get it back
together. You buy the used tranny and it blows up in 3 months- 300+900=1200.
Stick with what you got until the money situation turns around...
