Can you still be emissions compliant with the air pump eliminator bracket?
What does the air pump do for emissions? I heard it only pumps air to the cat to heat the cat up quicker so the cat will work. But, if it's eliminated, will the cat work, just take longer to heat up and work?
Re: Air Pump Bracket eliminated and emissions (black_89_vette)
I think you'll still be able to pass as far as the levels go, as long as your cats are good shape and your car's in good tune. You could fail though if a visual check is part of the inspection.
Re: Air Pump Bracket eliminated and emissions (black_89_vette)
I've read of several people passing emissions with no cat, EGR, or AIR equipment at all. I just depends on how well your car is tuned, according to them. Me personally, I don't have to deal with an emissions test, so I wouldn't know what my emmissions are like.
I prefer the home test: if you can't smell exhaust inside the car, the emissions are ok. :jester

My IM isn't working for some reason, probably due to a firewall issue, who knows.
THis is for korvette4u...yes, I eliminated my air pump, I bought the Breathless Performance Air Pump Eliminator bracket. You should be able to get it from the forum mall.

You have 'heard' half the function of the air pump.
Indeed there is a pipe going to the CC that injects air at that point in the exhaust stream.
Additionally, the air pump injects air into the exhaust manifold at EACH exhaust port to help consume any unburned fuel that made it out of the cylinders 'alive'. That's the plumbing system you see just above the exhaust manifolds on your Vette. This reduces the work your CC has to do and decreases emissions when the CC is cold.
