Hi i wondering if anyone else has experienced the problem i'm having. I just put a 396 stroker in my 94 lt1 and my car hits the rev. limiter in between shifts it's a automatic too.I have an accel 300+ in and have the rev limit high enough so it should'nt hit the rev limiter.I have a program from pcmforless and had tried three different programs and all the same results.please let me know if have had the same problem and if you might know what the problem is. thanks
Factory is 5800 or so......you don't have TV cables for the tranny since it is a 94 model....But is this only occuring at WOT or is it happening at part throttle as well?
I'm guessing it's a result of the stroker. It does take some amount of time for the tranny to shift. With the added torque load on it from the stroker motor it might not be able to shift until it hits the rev limiter and gets a moment of relief from the stresses put on it.
One thing is for sure, if the tranny is stock you'll break it very soon.
what's the engine do when it hits the rev limiter
The factory rev limiter drops fuel until the revs fall below a certain point and then it turns it back on again. This pretty harsh and it can be very dangerous for nitrous or forced induction applications where going lean is the worst thing you can possibly do. Most aftermarket ignition rev limiters function by dropping spark. These systems drop spark to every other cylinder, or at random until the revs fall below a certain point. This is much smoother when you hit it, and it's much smoother when you come off of it. The problem is that it dumps a lot of raw fuel down the pipes which can melt a catalytic converter pretty fast.
If the "spacing" between the shift points and limiter is tight (i.e. within 100rpm of one another), either raise the limiter or lower the shift points.
i was told by brian at pcmforless that i should look into getting a performance 4l60e trans. can you recommend anyone that sells a high performance 4l60e tranny. thanks
I've never seen a 4L60E or 700R4 last more than a month behind a stroker, shorter if you race. They just can't handle it. Some people here might point you in the right direction, but don't be suprised if it still breaks.

Re: engine hits rev limiter (396stroker)
I had the same problem and it was the trans slipping. At WOT it would not shift and hit the limiter. Moving the limiter will not help the problem, it's the trans.
