Got the car on the dyno and trying to figure out why the car runs ok at cruise, but when you go to WOT, the fuel and timing fall flat. I am being told that the knock sensor is being triggered by the knocking around of my tranny with the single mass alum flywheel and retarding timing?? Is this BS????
Re: Alum flywheel and knock sensor????? (jerkyboy)
The dyno shop ( I'm at work wringing my hands) said that the scanner showed the knock sensor activating. No knock in engine though. The only noise is coming from the bellhousing area. Can that tranny rattle set off that sensor??? They are pulling the trans out know to make sure the Centerforce did not come apart
I figured saving 50lbs of rotating mass would help the engine rev quicker. That it did but the rattling was god awful but I was willing to put up with it. After a few dyno runs last night, there was even more noise coming from the area with a load on it. The shop shut it down and thought it might be a good idea to pull the tranny. Hate to waste a tranny so I told them to go ahead. I am awaiting results impatiently. I am dynoing 100+ hp shy of where I need to be. These poor guys have been going nuts trying to find out why the car turns lean under load. I still have the dual mass. I will take it to them and have them reface it if I have to.
You don't have to hear a knock for it to trigger the spark retard function,... But if you hear it (knock) it is more than likely triggering the retard.
Easy way to test it,... disconnect the knock sensor wire, and watch the scanner.
Re: Alum flywheel and knock sensor????? (jerkyboy)
Rumor has it that you shouldn't resurface a dual mass flywheel. Just clean it up. If the grooves are too bad, or burnt, get another one. I know, very expensive.
It makes me want to :U to think I wasted all that $$ on an aluminum flywheel and have to now buy a new one. Man, the cost of goin' fast!!!
Still waitin' to hear from the shop 4:00 pm now (is that clock working??)
I just replaced my clutch and Dual Mass Flywheel in my 95 with a GM OE Clutch and the Fidanza Single. BOY WHAT A RACKET that gearbox is making. I can seriously tell the difference in the rev though...much quicker overall.
The clatter just maybe too much for me to take though.
Re: Alum flywheel and knock sensor????? (ncsugreywolf)
well, here is the latest. As of 6pm EST, apparently my brand new throw out bearing and pilot bearing are completely shot. Flywheel and clutch look OK. Now, do I take my old dual mass flywheel to them to install or stick with the Aluminum. Decisions Decisions. I just want to know how those bearings can be out in less than 2k miles???
Re: Alum flywheel and knock sensor????? (VetNutJim)
I have the Fidanza & LT4 knock module in the PCM, no problems with the knock sensors picking up false knock from the ZF / Fidanza at all... I scan constantly with Datamaster.
