The block would be a commodity. roller, 1 piece rear seal. 4 bolt mains.
Many of us can tell ya where not to get an engine!
The L98 is just a regular Small-Block Chevy, same one they used in the muscle car era, with just a different intake manifold on top. Any of those will work.
Have you thought about yanking out your engine and sending it in to Jaspers?
They went through my L98 complete with heads shipped both ways for about $2K give or take. I also have a 3 yr/75K mile warrentty.
Just a thought.
Good Luck
I used to live in Lubbock, and I did a whole lot of shopping at Scoggin-Dickey. They're awesome to deal with and on the rare occasion someone had problems, they were very good to deal with in getting it straightened out. When I need a new motor, there going to be the ones I go through.
ZZ4 is a direct replacement. Just use your old TPI setup, distributor and some other minor bits on it and it will install and work just fine. It even gives you a bit more power than the stock motor. If you want to get some more power add GM Hot Cam and 1.6 roller rockers + port your intake.
