I've currently having an issue with my 86 C4 where the lights do not go down on there own. They go up and work fine but I have to manually put them down. Now my question is ..... I noticed some vac lines for the light motors but no lines are hooked up.. is this the problem? do these headlight motors run off of vacuum? I have already replaced both relays and that did squat.
Those are drains for the motors you see. They are all electrical. Do the motors run and run and run or do they just plain not go down? There should be 3 relays for the headlight system.
If both do not go down problem is likely the isolation relay. There are 3 relays in the well in front of the drivers side front tire. 2 of them are the same, they control the up direction. The 3rd is a little different and supplies power to lower the headlights. I would check that relay first.
Re: Noobie question about headlights (Boostedpimp)
thanks for the suggestions guys. It's actually my father's c4 Im just trying to get some help for him. He said that he replaced two relays so I'll have him replace that third one.
Also I figured those vac ports weren't used for operation anymore
They just don't go down. They don't even try to go down ie no motor noise at all. My father also replaced that third relay so all three of them have been replaced. We checked the wires and there good.

Any other ideas??
The down circuit is not difficult. Fusable link, headlight switch, isolation relay and motor. Since it is common to both sides it is probably not both motors. So grab a meter and start checking to see where you lose power.
Re: Noobie question about headlights (Boostedpimp)
after experiencing the same proble, i would have to say it's most likely the relay
are you sure the two headlight relays were replaced with qorking units? i was sold a defective relay once and it caused alot of head scratching before i figured it out
