Default Switching Crossfire to Carb???

I recenty posted a question about switching my Crossfire to a big block but I have now decided that is not the best idea for me at this point. I found a engine i guy will trade me for my 1992 camaro. It is a 1986 350 out of a 86 Suburban. He took it to a mechanic shop and got everything redone in it and got it balanced. He said it has a factory cam with Vortex heads and eldle. intake. It does not come with carb or distib. Now the questions began, should i put a carb on it, if so what kind and what mods would i need to do to make it work? Or should i put my Crossfire on it, if i do put the crossfire on it what will i need to do to make it work on the engine?? Thanks

I think you have to elongate the center bolts all 4 of them (hey the rest of you keep me straight)Also the headers bolt holes have to be elongated.I was thinking the same with my 84 and decided on a 4 bolt block and sr torker heads 125.dome pistons nice cam to. :D Also bore my tbi's to 2.00
they work out to 735 cfm.My 2 cents. :D

I'm no expert but I don't believe the crossfire intake will work with Vortec heads. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me. Again, not sure but I would think the factory cam in a 350 out of a truck will be ground with truck duties in mind like low end torque and hauling power. Also I would think that the compression ratio would be quite low as the engine is probably made to use regular gas. I just don't think this would be the best choice for a replacement engine. Using a carb is definately the cheapest and easiest way to get more power and better performance out of a crossfire engine. Going in this direction you need to consider emissions testing for your state. It would probably pass exhaust testing if in proper tune but would fail visual inspection if this is part of the smog certification. Also when you decide to sell the vehicle it might make it very hard or even impossible to sell. I hope I was of some help.

I would keep with tbi's put a x-ram intake and headers and a chip. :D Keep the compression to below 11.0 you can run pump gas.Mine are 10.5 comp.Email me if you need any help.

I am considering keeping the crossfire on it but I dont think I would be able to get the 275HP if it cant flow freely. I dont know anything about heads but I heard that the vortex are very good even though they are not alum, they are cast iron. The guy said it has 2k miles on it and he put it in his 72 vette and it was fast but not great off the take off but he said that was because he said he didnt have the best rear end in it. What kind of rear does the 84 have in it and by a guess if i went carb would it be fast and stronger than if i went crossfire or maybe even TPI i can not afford the super ram. Any more suggestions

Well does any one know if this engine will be powerfull??? He said it has been bored .30 with flat top pistons, it has a NEW factory size cam in it, and the vortex heads and edle. intake, and corvette exhaust manifolds. Will this be more of a 86 suburbane engine or will it be fast engine for a vette?? He said it has 275 HP in it but is that pulling power or speed???? We are going to be doing the trade soon so should i do it and maybe put a cam in it or what?????
