There seems to be the hood latch mechanism, and wiper motor (I think), along with a frame brace in the way of the battery........is there a quick and painless way to remove the battery? I think it's toast... when boosted, it starts and runs fine.shut it off and it's dead.....
Removal of the small lower fender looks that way..... I hope not.........if so, is that removal easy??
I don't think you mean a '98? On your '88, loosen the 10mm bolt under the side panel (the one with the gills); remove the bolts in the inner fender that go through into the gill panel, plus the one under the rubber weather strip at the top rear of the panel. Use a long extension to loosen the single battery hold down bolt. Remove battery cables & slide battery out the side. :flag
Sorry, I meant 88 L98...........Wish I had a 98..........SOON....
I think I'll disconnect the terminals and clean them.I really hope it's
that, and not a toasted battery...... all of a sudden...it was find the other
day when I had it out...... REALLY hope it's not the alternator!!
The fender skirt does not have to be removed entirely to remove the battery.
1. Loosen the screw at the front and bottom of the fender.
2. Remove the other two front fender screws.
3. Remove the top rear screw of the fender. It is a good idea to use penetrating oil while removing these screws- I broke this tab on mine.
Assuming the battery cables and hold down clamp has been removed you can now move the battery through the fender space by grasping the top front of the fender and lift (squeeze) the battery through.
It is much easier the second and third time.
On my first attempt I removed the front tire and splash panel.....
Good Luck
