1. Remove wheel
2. Remove brake caliper & hang out of the way.
3. Remove brake rotor
4. Remove 36mm nut
5. Remove 3 torx bolts from back side
6. Pull bearing off
7. Reverse
Those 3 bolts can be a pain to get to around the u-joint. If the bearing is bad, this is a good time to replace the half-shaft u-joints. Getting the u-joints out of the way makes the bearing much easier to deal with.
That's probably why the book says to remove the entire knuckle as a unit.
I did this about 5 years ago ..changed them both..not too bad..a little cramped...just needed real long extensions for the torx bolts if I recall.
