I recently sent in a post about my AC system. The fan blows air, but it isn't cold air. As it turns out, the clutches on the compressor aren't engaging. On the rare occasion when they do, the air is cold, and the accumulator/dryer is cold. That leads me to think a sending device of some kind must not be working right. I'm not sure. Does anyone have a clue?
Finally, the heat/Ac controls seem to have a mind of their own. I can only use one button once, and then then the entire system refuses to work. For instance, if I select Auto, I'll get Auto, but I won't be able to change it again. If I turn the system off, It'll turn off, but I won't be able to turn the system back on again. I can select to turn the temp up or down, but I then can't select anothetr temperature. What's with it?
check if a/c system has enough fluid, then check your sending devices , if problem still here replace the device actuator.... :yesnod:

You may have more than one problem, but you need to fix the dash assembly first. The contacts may be dirty and you can take off the face plate and clean them or simply replace it. Hard to troubleshoot it until it's working properly and once it is, the built in self diagnostics may point to the problem.
I've been having the same problem off and on with my '90, since the car was new.
I've been told elsewhere, that '89 and earlier dashboard push buttons need to have the button contacts cleaned from time to time to ensure that theyare operating properly. '90 and later should not require cleaning, the design was changed. Don't know if this is true or not. I've never tried to clean my buttons.
The same source suggested that I unplug and replug the HVAC programmer and see if that solved the problem. If it didn't - it was most likely that I needed a new programmer.
I did just that, and all buttons started to work again. Several days later, the problem returned. Each day, it's a different button that refuses to work...
I'm currently shopping for a programmer - I wish there was a definative test to confirm that this is in fact the problem...
The unit seems very flimsy and not that technical (on the outside). Wonder why its so expensive.
Anyone know if there is a repair station to send the programmer to for analysis, testing and rebuild?
