Default Legit mods or snake oil??

1) The air inlet temp sensor relocation (with or without a kit for $34.99). The deal is to move the sensor closer to the front of the car and away from the motor. Most kits move it to the air box. At a dyno session recently, an LS-1 owner told me that it was a real 3 hp at the wheels of his vette. Any experience here??

2) High flow MAF housing ends. These can be purchased for typically $79.99 (although MAD has them on sale) and promise to increase flow from around 600 cfm to around 1,000. Can this be possible without also improving the MAFs flow capacity? Advertised gains for the housing ends are 5-9 hp depending on whos ad you read. Anyone ever dyno tested these?

I moved the IAT sensor to the air box. I noticed a difference in throttle response (SOTP), but no dyno results. This MAF housing end - are you speaking of the smooth tube replacement for the accordian piece? I see you have an LT-4, so it is a little different than mine, but I have the smooth tube that replaces that accordian piece also. Since I installed it with some other mods at the same time, I can't say it makes a difference, but I've noticed some LPE engines use smooth tubes beyond the MAF. I figured it would be wise to follow their lead. Sorry I can't give any more feedback. :seeya

Snake oil on an LT4.
:iagree:

On LS1s that air inlet temp sensor has something to do with the selection of timing tables. On LTx motors it just tells when to go into closed loop. At least that is what I can determine with LT1 Edit.

Opinion is that both these mods are snake oil.

I think the smooth couplers are about in the same catagory as an air foil. Theoretically better, but too small an improvement to be either measured or felt. There have been posts in the past to reinforce this lack of improvement.

I think the relocation of the air temp sensor might work, but what it really does is "trick" the ecm. I suspect a better approach would be to just reprogram the ecm!
