Re: Help! How to Remove Pwr.Steering Pulley? (VetNutJim)
Remove the belt, use a power steering pump pulley remover. It uses a sleeve the grabs around the collar and pulls it off by pressing against the power steering pump shaft. Good luck.. :chevy

Thanks vetteracer.
I have several pullers...harmonic damper, a set of pulley pullers, steering wheel puller...
but no dedicated power steering pump pulley puller.
Is there a way to get this thing off similar to removing the flywheel off a Briggs and Stratton or similar to pulling tie rods and things like that with NO puller... you guys that have done those two... you KNOW how to do it.
What type fastener is holding this rascal on? Is it just pressed on?
If it's pressed on I'll find a way to put pressure on the pulley and pop the sucker off with a well placed hammer blow.
Anybody done this without special tools?
vetteracer, I can visualize the tool you are talking about... I'll check my puller collection tommorow and see if I have one that can grab that lip at the front of the pulley.
Re: Help! How to Remove Pwr.Steering Pulley? (VetNutJim)
I use the puller by OTC. Part number 7185. I'm sure if you have a puller with small jaws you can grab behind the collar and pull it off. The shaft is threaded for the installer so make sure you don't push into the threads. :chevy

you really should buy the puller because you will need it to install the pulley on the new pump.it is rally the only way to go you may be able to rent one or have a local shop swap it out for you

These things are really cheap at Pep Boys, Kragen, and Auto Zone. I've seen what happens to a pump with a blow to the shaft. It blew a hole out the other end of the pump. It's is so easy to use for removing and installing the pulley. Don't waste your time trying to make something else work, it's not worth it.
