I just went and checked my timing and it is not even on the timing marks, it is above the mark, not even reading... Where should it be if I were to want it to run better,,,, more performance??????
Relax, you only need to open the connector in the blk/tan wire below the brake booster. It's similar to removing the vacuum line on the old vacuum advance distributors.
When done turn off the ignition, reconnect the blk/tan wire and open the connection in the orange wire near the battery for 30sec. to reset the ECM.
Thanks alot I was worried there for a minute....... When I do this where do i expect to see my timing mark? And for optimum performance where should I set it.... Should it be before or after on the timing marks
I expect it is set at about 6deg BTDC; you can try 8-10deg for better throttle response, so long as you don't get any spark retard due to ping at high RPM and WOT.
You can use some Scotch Brite to burnish the plate so that you can read the numbers. A littel white paint or shoe polish on the damper mark makes it easier to take a reading too.
BTW, if you still have the "frisbee" on the front of your water pump pulley, toss it to gain 10chp and make access to the timing plate much easier.
