I've had the pan off twice and the bolts tightened 3 times and the thing STILL leaks A LOT--about a quart each month!!! That's amazing to me. I know about the problem of the pan possibly being bent a bit and the problem of the gasket being compressed too much (overtightened bolts), but A QUART EACH MONTH??!! What's up with this? *This is on an '84 with 148,000 miles. Sound powertrain...except for the leaking!!!
Are you SURE it's leaking around the pan?
There ARE a couple of other places it "could" leak...it ALL ends up on the pan because that's the lowest point.
I had the same type of problem on my '84. Then I went to http://www.jegs.com and bought a Deral Trans Pan. With cooling tubes and xtra capacity. Fluid runs cooler. Although I do use a special cooler for the trans also.
Have not had problems since, now over 2 years.
Don't know if this will help you. But just an FYI. Best $79.95 I've ever spent on the automatic.
