Default Overspray on car...need help

I get my car running and drover to work and had it parked in the garage and when I came back out at end of day and now there is overspray all over the hood and windshield and front of car and some down both sides....I don't know what or where they were doing this at.....I am so glad the new paint is about 8 months old and I had just hand waxed the car before all of the work I had just did on the car.....But now I need your help to get it off.....You can't really see it, but you can sure feel it when you run your hands accross it.....I took a small area and waxed it and it came off, but I was wondering if claying the car would be better and easier to do it and then rewax the car all over again.....What do you guys prescribe for this? You think maybe someone would have said something about this going on....Its looks clear what ever it is....

Thanks :banghead:

I would try a clay bar on it. Clay bars really work great for removing surface debris.

While painting my house, I had overspray that drifted into the garage and covered the vehicle with millions of tiny spec's (Latex Stain). Naturally, I didn't drive the car for over 6 months, and didn't notice them until the next summer.

I couldn't get anyone to recommend a course of action - everyone was afraid of liability if the finish was damaged.

I had good luck using OOPS! dried latex paint remover.
I wet the car down with water and used a soft terry cloth towel to losen the spec's. Worked in very small sections, about 3 passes each area. Constant flushing with garden hose inbetween applications (paranoid about affecting automotive finish).

I have done many cars that had oversparay on them and the clay bar is the best.Make sure to keep the car wet so that the clay bar doesn't try to stick to the car.I put my nozzle on mist and work it just like you would if you were wet sanding it.You should be able to do it in about 2 hours then wax.

I'm pleased with the results - considering what might have happened, or the cost to repaint the car!

I had white latex specs on a white finish, so there wasn't much in the way of contrast problems.

Most noticeable when running hand over the body when wet - could feel each and every dot - hand didn't slide easily.

The OOPS! helped soften up the specs, and those that remained, I easily flicked loose with a fingernail, rather than continue to apply the solvent. Constantly flushed with garden hose while I worked, trying to avoid damage to automotive finish.

Once cleaned up, my hand slide smoothly over the body. I would think that the original coat of wax on the car help protect the paint - I'm sure I destroyed that with the cleaner.

Didn't see any deteriation in the automotive finish (to my untrained eye) from using the OOPS! Washed it several times over the course of a month and then put on a coat of wax.

I ran through some paint in my daily driver, some knucklehead must of dropped it out of the back of his truck. The car in front of me squished the can and I was next in line. Speckles all over the front and 1 side of the car. I tried wax first to get it off and was not successful (the car had not been waxed in about a year) Then I bought a Mother's clay bar kit and it was amazing! Took all off the paint speckles off without much effort at all. Try the clay bar.

I have removed oversparay with clay bars on many occasions. You can get this stuff at NAPA, Advance Auto, and it really works. After you clay her down, put on some Zaino and get out the sunglasses!

Clay works good and all of the solvents should be out of the new paint job by now, so with a good lubricant, it shouldn't dull or scratch anything. If your carry Comprehensive Coverage, it's a covered loss, so another option would be to report it to your insurance carrier and let them pay for a shop to do it. You could check with the shop that painted it too and see what they think.

Clay BUT another thing that is great at removing overspray is scratch-X. My car had overspray on it and my friend gave me some scratch-x for it and it removed ALL of the overspray. A wax later and the paint was good to go :seeya

Well I clayed it and clayed it and clayed it and it is so much better, but it still is not all gone..I can still feel it ever so slight, I did put a good coat of Gold Class on it after wards and its shinny, but I can still see it...sort of like a faded kij=nd of look...and you can't really se it unless you get right down with a perfect light right in the area...butI know its there....I guess I will see what happens....I guess I will do it again......Thanks guys for the help.....I thought about the insurance thing, but I pay enough for my insurance as I carry everything under the sun including Gap.....But I have given it thought...
