After scavenging the archives as best I could, I've determined the best way to jack up the front end of our C4's is to:
1. drive up on a length of 2x4's or 2x6's under the front tires, this allows for the extra 1" of lift necessary to roll a floor jack underneath (my new 3 ton floorjack measures 6" high, the black plastic lip underneath the front end of the vette is only 5")
2. use the centerpoint of the front crossmember as the jackpoint, using a hockey puck or a piece for 2x4 in the cup of the jack (i think i'll go with the puck, its color coordinated that way )
I got 2 pieces of 2x12's , drive up on them, jack up at cross member and then place jack stands... I only use the hockey puck if i'm jacking the sides up...

Re: Jacking The Front End (bradvette)
I skip the driving onto 2x4s and just put the hyd jack right on the jacking marks for the stock jack. I raise the car and put the stands in place. The jack does no damage to the car.
