Considering changing to a lightweight flywheel
Do I have to have anything balanced (the engine or the flywheel) if I make the change over or can I just toss it in ???

This is tricky...
the dual mass flywheel is designed to be 1/2 the balance for the engines internals.
so the single mass needs to be what, I think, they call "match balanced". this will take the existing dual mass and match it, percentages to percentages, to the dual mass.
This will maintain the engines internal balance.
otherwise, you might pick up some vibrations along the way.
