Default sos engine builders

I have a l-98 350 that I am changing to a 383 motors out, stripped and ready for the machine shop. I just have a few questions:
Any suggestions on heads or cam that can get me atleast 450 hp when combined with a 58mm throttle body, mini ram II, and ported intake? I am from CA so I have to stay legal. This is my first engine build so please laymans terms for me. thank you

Check with the boys at TPIS. They specialize in this stuff. I'm putting one of their ZZ9 cams in my L98. Remember, you may have to grind down the counterweights on your crank to clear the cam. You will need to have the engine rebalanced. Some of the counterwieghts on the 383's are done on the harmonic balancer and flexplate, like the 400's. You will probably also need to have a custom chip burned for it also to pass emmissions.

get an internally balanced 400crank/rod/piston combo then you wont have to have counter balances else or on fly wheel.

AFR 195cc heads w/ L98 plugs, not the competition verson though, $1400. i dont think the 20cfm is worth the extra $600 bucks.

are you replacing the 22lb injectors?

let me know how it goes! :smash:

The miniram from TPIS isnt smog legal, unless they made some changes I do not know about.(example,no EGR)
The SuperRam from LPE(Linegenfelter Engineering) is legal in 49 states or something like that.CA seems to be the toughest to deal with.
Check with who youre buying parts from to see if they come with a 50 state legal emissions number.Even though an engine combo may run cleaner than stock where you live,if the smog inspectors dont see CARB legal parts, theyre not gonna pass you.

yes I am replacing the fuel injectors with 26lbs. Do you have any suggestions on where to buy the AFR heads?
It looks like the mini ram is going to sit on the shelf for the test. Does anyone know where to buy the 400 crank/pistons/rod kits? I was looking at ebays 4340 forged stroker kit for 1600 any opions? Sorry, about the all question just want to do it right. thank you

Remember, you may have to grind down the counterweights on your crank to clear the cam.
Not hardly! If you buy a "kit", the pistons will clear the crank counterweights. The points of possible interference are: 1) Con rod to block oil pan rail. 2) Con rod to the bottom of the cylinder bores. 3) Con rod to camshaft.
You will need to have the engine rebalanced. Some of the counterwieghts on the 383's are done on the harmonic balancer and flexplate, like the 400's.
An 'internally" balanced assembly is a nice, but unnecessary option, for "normal" use. To save hassles, and probably money, in the long run, opt to purchase the damper and flexplate/flywheel from the kit supplier, if they offer a "balanced assembly" option. Good luck, and...
