Okay, I posted last month about my Low Tire Pressure Warning Sensor ligh illuminating on the dic trying to fake me out about a tire being low when in fact they are all inflated to 32psi ('vert). Standard Goodyear GS-C's, not EMT's (not runflats). So the past few days the LTPWS light has been coming on a minute or two after the car is started 1st time for the day (true cold start) and stays illuminated the whole drive until I shut down and restart the engine (cycle the system...). Tire pressure is okay of course. Only does this for the first startup, i.e. cold start. Doesn't do it for other times the same day getting in the car, starting up, and going.
What's the deal with this? I know its a known glitch. I remember reading in a post where you can't disable the LTPWS system without it continously setting a code from then on
Is your tire pressure 32 psi on a cold start? I have found that for cooler weather driving (i.e. this time of year), I get better performance from a warm pressure reading of 34 psi, however the pressure will get too low overnight and trigger the LTPWS. My wifes '95 runs at 34 psi warm and triggers "Low Tire" in the morning or on a cold start, however once the tires heat up and the air expands, the light shuts off (following re-start - I think). My '96 does not have LTPWS.
On my 95 the sensors trigger at 24 psi.
The problem could be a bad sensor (often messed up during a tire change).
The problem could also be the receiver.
Best to look at the error codes. Then try erasing the codes (resetting) and see if they recur. The only info on the dash is the LTPWS light, which doesn't tell you where the problem is.
Mine turned out to be a bad rear tire sensor.
Sorry for the double up post. I almost forgot to mention a great product.
Accu-Pressure sells a valve cap that measures the tire pressure. Comes in various pressures. Shows Green for fully inflated, Yellow for 4# low, and Red for 10# low. The 36# caps work great for me, but they come in 32#, etc.
I think MidAmerica, Ecklers, etc sell them, but they have a website also.
With the caps, a 10 second walkaround the car confirms the tires are inflated OK, and the LTPWS becomes redundant. If you drive at high speed (over 130mph) at all, you might want to remove the sensors entirely.
