I am so frustrated I just want to give up. After I had to take my heads off because of poor machine work, I finaly get the car running and now I keep loosing coolant. I may have had a problem with the radiator leaking fluid into the trany because when I changed the fluid yesterday I got 4 1/2 gallons of strawberry colored goop out of it before it started to run clear. But I still am conserned I am loosing fluid because after bypassing the radiator straight to an external cooler I still noticed I was about 1/2 gallon down after a short run. I was so frustrated that I called it a day and parked the damn thing. Prior to the last run I checked all the plugs and they all looked normal and the car has no smoke either running or upon start up. I think I am going to bring it to a local radiator shop and have them run a test for carbondioxide in the radiator and that should tell me if I have a blown head gaskett.
Try this:
When the engine is cold, remove the radiator cap and fill if necessary. Start the car, top it off again, and watch for bubbles. It may take a minute for all the trapped air to get out of your cooling system, but after that you should be bubble free. If not, you do indeed have the dreaded blown head gasket.
Been down this road... I know it ain't no fun.
Good Luck - let us know how it turns out.
