Sorry if this is a stupid question guys....I just bought my 92 coupe a couple of weeks ago and have been browsing through the forums....anyway, can someone explain to me what a "cut lid" or "open lid" is? I know it has to do with the air filter and I already installed a K&N filter. I just want to know how to do it myself....any help would be appreciated.
It is an air cleaner lid that has had the shroud and baffles removed so that it is basically then just a rectangular frame that holds the air filter in place on the air cleaner base/foundation.
The best method is probably to use a dremel tool to cut the baffles out and trim off some of the edge after removing the shroud. It is the shroud that causes the air lid to pull engine compartment air as source air for the air cleaner. With the shroud removed, the air cleaner is allowed to draw some air from the frontal bumper cavity area which gets some fresh air entering. Doesn't make it a cold air system but better than engine compartment air.
