Default Cooling system baffles - Part II

Once again I've had my car overheat after hearing a gurgling sound and smelling anti-freeze (had been driving for about 45 minutes, avg. speed 45 mph, outside temp 57 degrees, engine temp had been 164 degrees). New radiator and upper radiator hose (year old), and after my last post regarding this topic, a new heavy-duty 160 degree thermostat installed this past Saturday.

When I pulled off the interstate and popped the hood, the driver side back of the radiator shroud had coolant on it. I couldn't see any leaks in the hose. I got out my 1 gal. of water and opened the radiator cap slowly with very little leakage from the cap during opening. Added the water and drove into work with temp around 168 degrees.

When leaving work I added water and then left the radiator cap only halfway tightened. The car did fine all the way home (32 miles) in stop and go construction on the interstate and 70 MPH traffic once past construction.

I'm totally baffled  ... the only thing I can figure is there is too much pressure building up in the system and the radiator cap isn't allowing over flow into the overflow can. Thus it finds the 'path of least resistance' and the coolant comes out (possibly) at a loose radiator/upper hose connection. There is no smoke of any kind coming from the exhaust - no black, blue or white.. perfectly clear. The engine accelerates fine.

Sure do appreciate the help/advice on this one.
