Is Stock HEI enough?
Will the stock HEI handle a 6500rpm stroker? Should I replace the coil with a high energy HEI? Is the MSD and other multiple fire boxes really worth it? Thanks

I've seen a stock HEI turned 8500 rpm on a alcohol burning small block that I used to wrench on. The MSD we had on it took a dive and it was all we had trackside. It worked so well, we left it in and finished the season like that. Granted, it may have been a freak of nature, but it never missed a beat. On my own stuff I've turned one 7000 rpm many more times than that engine should have. They work pretty good right out of the box, but if you can add a better coil and module, then adjust the advance where you need it, they work even better. The MSD or Jacobs stuff is good as well. When I put the 6AL and MSD coil on my car the engine ran noticeably smoother.

Well the HEI is pretty good up until you get to that 5000-5500+ area, then judging from dyno graphs it tends to get erratic, the dyno graphs get really spikey at those rpms. So if you plan on turning 6500 I would definitely consider an MSD box and other upgrades or something similar to boost the power at those rpms.
