The higher octane gas won't help most people. Most cars, stock or lightly modded, can see more timing than they need with 92 octane. Try getting some 92 octane the next time you're on a dyno. Advance the timing until it pings, or quits making power. My bet is you'll stop making power before it detonates.
If you aren't running N20, forced induction, or high compression, 92 is enough.
As to how far you could advance the timing with the high octane gas, every combo is going to be different. Elevation will play a part, as well as weather conditions that day. There is no set, concrete number.

Re: 100 octane fuel... (Unriced)
LoL Unocal 76 sells that "racing fuel" at a station close to where I live. My engine's not tuned well enough to take advantage of it the way it should be. My mechanic told me not to use it cuz it could f*** up my engine...ie rings , pistons, valves....u name it. He said you gotta have engines designed for that kind of octane to be able to use it without problems or heavy repairs. I'm sure the stuff is good for those that can handle it, but it's kinda like puttin rocket fuel in a lawnmower....although these "cars" are often deemed rockets.....one must never forget that that's actually a metaphor. LOL. :yesnod:
