My son works at the local Chevy place and they are constantly changing batteries because of the posts pulling out. It seems that side post AC Delco Batteries have a flaw; the weakness in the post connection inside the battery. They fail mostly because of over tightning of the battery terminals. Look back in the archives and find a thread that talks about the only 2 or 3 factories that make all the batteries. They put different names on them, but mostly the same. One of those companies that makes the batteries is not as good as the other(s). I wish I could remember which one it was. Maybe someone can help us out here. Optima is a different choice and seems like a good one, just don't let it get too low in voltage. Also, Optima has top posts along with side mounting post. Sometimes the top post cause a problem with installation.
I love my optima redtop battery. Has top and side posts. The tops are good for charging. hHe damn thing will still start the car even if cranking volts are down in the 10.0 range.
I replaced mine with an Exide and have not been happy with them. Customer service doesn't !! I should have read the reviews here first as no one seems to like Exide and now I know why !!

I didn't know there were only three battery manufacturers in the world. But I guess it makes sense.
Whoever makes the Wal-Mart batteries, does a hell of a job. The one in my 77 gets abused. It sits for cold winters with no love, yet never fails to crank when I need it. I'm amazed.
I'll put those in all my cars, when the time comes.

My AC Delco did the same thing Ken, right now there is a regular old NAPA battery in there and in the other one I have the NAPA/Exide Optima equivalent and love it so far.
