4+3 OD question
what triggers the OD to turn on and off? (other than the switch) once in a while my 85 will flicker the OD on and off....i just flip off the switch and shift up one gear...its rare, and it only happens in 2nd and 3rd...but i wonder why it happens? i just had the fluid and filter changed about 3000 miles ago...its not a throttle position thing...(85 only has the automatic kickdown in 4th) is it related to fluid pressure? i know there are going to be nay sayers about using the OD in any conditions other than over 55 in 4th, but in day to day traffic, gentle shifts, and normal acceleration, i don't see how the OD unit could fail...anyway...just wondering why it decides to go :crazy: once in a while

When my 85 does this the usual culprit is the first gear indicator switch. Over the years it has developed a slight gearlube leak. So when my od starts doing this problem I remove the connector and clean it and the exterior of the switch with electrical contact cleaner reinstall the connector and my od is fine for a few months.
