First, the switch for my fog lights should have 3 states, i think. on this switch, at the right is a white point, in the middle nothing and on the left the symbol of the fog light. but its impossible to tilt the switch to the "left state". ok, i ordered a new switch, because i thouhgt its damaged. but with new new switch i've got the same problem? whats wrong?
my other question: how to verify the the model year of my corvette? in my vehicle document of identification i can see the date of first entry in circulation, this is february 88, but maybe my vette is a 87' model?
The 10th digit (alpha character) of the VIN tells you the model year of the car. In my case it is a 'G' which translates to 1986. Most of the Chilton/GM manuals show you a breakdown on the VINs, as to what each character means.
bogus, this is the switch i ordered, because i thought the old one was damaged because i couldn't change it to the state of the fog light. but the replacement (the new one) has the same problem. do you know what i mean? i can switch to the point, to the middle but not to the fog light sign, it's blocking. i've no idea why, it's very unlogic.
I don't think the export models were any different than ours when it came to this. The switch is just saying "I'm a foglight switch, press the white point to turn me on."
my 86 coupe fog light switch works both left and right and the lights come on and off as they are supposed to. I don't know what is going on with your switch. does it rock both ways out of the car or just installed?
Vinnie,
What are the functions in each of the three positions? Mine is simply, on/off. What does your switch do that mine/ours doesn't?
Cyberblast,
What "state" are you missing? If it rocked to all three positions, what would you expect from a third position that you don't have with the two?
In my car the switch has the foglight symbol on the left side and the dot (which has worn off) on the right side. Pressing the dot in turns on the fog lights. Pressing the foglight symbol side in isn't possible, its blocked as you say.
But... I do have to have the headlight switch at least in the parking light position for the foglights to work.
I was under the impression that you must have other lights on and not just the driving lights. Supposed to prevent owners from running around with just front illumination and no rear lights (CA lawsuit waiting to happen  ). I'm not positive on this, but I think I've read it on here before.
