Chevy offers an intake manifold oil shield for the Big Block, and an aftermarket vendor sells one for the small block (at least they used to ?edelbrock ?moroso).
Purpose is to keep hot oil off the bottom of the intake manifold so the intake charge stays cooler.
That's what I was thinking too. I know there is a removable shield that is already attached to the bottom of an LT1 intake. Just wasn't sure if that is what your were asking about.
Not sure if the stock LT1 plate is similar to what you are talking about. In addition to oil functions, the cover, plate, fixture, whatever, also holds down the lifter guide plates, keeps em in position.

Hmmmm? You don't mean on your 90 do you? There is a "spider" retainer we like to call it that holds the lifter guide plates in place for the Rollerblock L98s held in place with 3 bolts. The oil shield on the bottom of the L98 manifold doesn't do any of that.
I'm pretty sure the lifter spider and the manifold oil sheild are different pieces.
Didn't realize the LT1 had a shield. Never paid attention. Does it cover the entire bottom surface, or only the central portion?
Thanks for the assistance.
