What is the sensor-looking gadget mounted on the lower passenger side of the timing cover? Mine is beginning to leak oil. Is there a simple way of getting to this thing without disassembling half of the front end?
Surely you jest (just kidding). No, I didn't post a pic. I had to literally stand on my head with a mirror and flashlight just to see the damned thing.\
It appears to be right above the front crossmember. And it appears as if this crossmember unbolts? It's only a drip everynow and then leak at the moment. I just don't want it to be getting worse and am checking if there is any way to get too it now, with a whole lot of hassle.
Does the center section of the cross member come out? I may simply be blowing smoke out my **** too, thinking it unbolts; but that is what it looked like.....there wasn't a whole lot of wiggle room beneath the vette at the time I was checking where the oil was dripping from.
Anyone ever had to deal with this before? I could certainly use some tips.

There is nothing that fits than description on MY engine. Is it really on the timing cover? Does it have wires running from it? If so, where do they go? So far, *I'M* stumped.
95/96. I don't remember if it goes all the way back to 92. Developed for DIS systems. Incorporated into other years and models to improve ignition timing. :chevy
Crankshaft position sensor. You can reach it from underneath. GM has just the O ring for it. :chevy
????????????
What YEAR is this thing? Nothing like that on the old Crossfire!
It's a '96 LT1. I can just barely see it even with the mirror. It is below the Opti and above the lip of the oil pan, closer to the oil pan, on the passenger side of the front of the motor. I am not 100% certain it is on the timing cover itself. It might be on the block, but it is right down almost to the oil pan.
I can't really see any wire harness attached (but that doesn't mean that there isn't one). There does appear to be a small (about 8 or 9mm) hex-head nut on the end of it, but I can't reach it with a boxend wrench.
Sorry for the 'tude earlier.....this thing just has me frustrated and I'd like to get it fixed before the nasty cold weather moves in.
No big deal. Owning a Corvette shop, I see all the crap. It is located in the timing cover. Use a 10mm wrench to get the retaining bolt off and it will pull out. Change the o ring, reinstall and your on your way. I always do it from the bottom but I think you can get it from the top if you unplug the spark plug wires. Have fun... :chevy
