I've heard from many different sources that you could remove the screen inside the mass air flow housing to gain horsepower but just yesterday read somewhere that on certain LT1's, (94,95 I think) that it would throw a reading off and the check engine light would come on. I was just curious if anybody has actually done it on theres and what the result was. Help is appreciated!
I've read that it works on the L98 but not a good idea for an LT1/LT4. You actually loose power by removing the screen due to the MAF being out of calibration. In theory you should gain, but I've heard the opposite. I would love to hear from someone who tested it on a dyno.
i removed mine in my '95. the screen has been out for 5 months or so and no problems whatsoever. ran a 13.6 bone stock, since then i've cut the airbox and removed the MAF screen. my 1/8 mile run during that 13.6 was 8.8@82, and after the cut airbox and removed screen, i ran the 1/8 in a 95+ weather and pulled 8.8@80 with a worse 60'. So i think i gained power, but the heat killed my mph.
